White Mountain ephemera includes advertising brochures produced by the hotels and railroads and businesses, menus, trade cards, bill heads, letter heads, letter sheets, and more. Engravers, for the most part, remain unidentified. In the instances in which names are known, little is known the engraver. Well known artists also produced some of this material. For example, Frank Shapleigh produced the illustrations for at least one Crawford House brochure. These documents are historically important: they document physical changes in buildings, changes in ownership, rates for goods and services, and newly added amenities.
The items illustrated are from the collections of Bryant Tolles, Douglas Philbrook, Adam Jared Apt and Dick Hamilton.
